$31 million for National Theater restoration

In order to support the project "Integral Program of Security and Conservation of the Historical National Theater of Costa Rica", the Central American Bank of Economic Integration (CABEI) will grant the government of Costa Rica a financing of US $ 31,330,000.00 million.


The CABEI financing will allow the development of the program consisting of investments for an active and passive fire protection system, the renewal of the electrical system for greater safety and modernization of the stage box, including the mechanization of the stage, sound aspects, lighting and installation aspects. of an acoustic shell, in addition to giving independence to the administrative offices and warehouses, to exclude them from the main building of the Theater.

The National Theater of Costa Rica is par excellence the national historical monument that must be preserved for future generations. Due to its cultural activity, its social participation and its architectural characteristics, this important heritage building is a bulwark for the Costa Rican population.

On February 5, the Legislative Assembly of Cosa Rica declared it Historical Architectural Heritage and Cultural Freedom. With the implementation of this program, the BCIE hopes to contribute with the strengthening of the nation's cultural sector, collaborating with Costa Rica to preserve one of the most important spaces of exchange and cultural experience.

The "Integral Program of Security and Conservation of the Historical Monument of the National Theater of Costa Rica", is an initiative that is part of the Human Development and Social Infrastructure focal area of ​​the Social Development Axis of the Institutional Strategy 2015-2019 of the BCIE called "Integrating Development and Sustainable Competitiveness".
CABEI recognizes the need to support its member countries in relevant areas that promote the human and social development of the population. Through this financing, the BCIE will be supporting the management carried out by the authorities of the Ministry of Culture and the National Theater, aimed at achieving, in the short term, the investment required to improve the conditions of such an important architectural gem and historical of Costa Rica.
